Siargao Masaya —
TYPHOON ODETTE-RAI
On December 16, 2021, Siargao was hit hard by Typhoon Rai (Odette), which destroyed 95% of the island. The material damage is enormous. Farms, coconut trees, fishing boats, houses and business were completely devasted.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has estimated that the typhoon caused 20 billion worth of damage to the island’s fishing, farming, and tourism industries – the island’s three main sources of living. Food and clean drinking water is being cried for. It will take months to rebuild everything and find a little bit of normal life.
At the moment, we have to act urgently, so that as many people as possible can have access to drinking water, food and shelter. In a second phase and throughout the year 2022, we will strive to provide longer-term support solutions to the local population, such as rebuilding houses or boats.
Also, your donations will go for immediate relief aid : buying necessary supplies (e.g. water filters, medicine, food, temporary shelters, roofing and construction materials) and long term relief aid : construction of typhoon resilient homes, livelihood rehabilitation,… Our vision is to empower the local community to create a sustainable and self-sufficient island.
More than ever, Siargao needs your precious help to raise back again. Your generosity will go such a long way in the lives of the Siargao locals.
In advance, thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
SIARGAO NEEDS YOUR HELP MORE THAN EVER!
